Several exciting events which have happened and are coming up: First, I have received the Volunteer Service Award from Secretary Spelling of the U.S. Department of Education, which is a really great honor and I hope this brings more attention to dysgraphia in addition to SPLAT’s mission to get more laptops to kids here in the U.S. I received an award from the International Dyslexia/Dysgraphia Society Inland Empire and got to speak at their meeting. This was really great because they got to see how dysgraphia does not have to slow you down if you’re lucky enough to have a laptop and a great school like Los Encinos to support you. The segment taped by Good Morning America, and a new one being taped by CNN next week will hopefully air soon and bring more donations. And finally a great group of musicians get together once a month to play for free, and collect money for a local charity that they pick. This group called Grass Roots Acoustica are going to play for SPLAT money on Saturday March 1st. If you want to come, I’ll be there with my family, its at LuLu’s in studio city, 13203 ventura blvd at 8:00. Finally, I just got 5 almost brandnew laptops! I am really grateful for everything that is happening because it keeps the donations coming, and I’m able to give my students their laptops when they graduate to their home with their family. I am also really glad that I ‘ve been able to help other people with dysgraphia.

Hi Michael
I just saw you on TV and am so happy to hear about what you are doing!! I am a pediatric occupational therapist and have a special part of my practice called Computer Campus. We help kids just like you who are really smart but have a tough time with handwriting. I’d love to hear more about the keyboarding and other computer programs that you use when you tutor kids with other learning challenges. We use something that is great called “Keyboard Coach” It teaches keyboarding in a multisensory way. We also do help kids with handwriting and make that easier. I bet you could even get some relief with some of our techniques.
Anyway–lots of luck and let me know if there are things you would like me to do at Pediatric Potentials to spread the word.
Best Regards

Dear Michael:
I saw your television spot on Good Morning America today. My seven year old son has dysgrahia. He has made great stides with OT but we quit last summer. It seemed that we were at an impass. He can write in cursive ok but still receives a n- on his report card. I am just happy that you can read it. It struggles with it daily. One thing that has really helped to ease the muscle cramping in playing the piano. This exercise has helped him in a joyful way. Once you learn to read the music it is passive therapy just like typing. Do you have a typing program that is easy for kids to learn that you recommend. He reads on a second to third grade level. He is in the first grade. His name is Chase and we live in Virginia.
Thank you,
You are inspirational,
Kelly Crider

big heart.Turning our disabilities into our abilities is what
is so empowering. You encouraged me today to persevere in
overcoming my anxiety around computer skills.
Hey Michael!
I just saw you on Good Morning America and your story touched my heart. You are an amazing young man! If more of us lived by your motto that “It’s not all about me,” the world would be a better place. You truly are an inspiration! =)
